Day 29

“Everyone Has The Right to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly”

Today, we celebrate ARTICLE 20, the Right to peaceful assembly, as we countdown to our #StandUpForHumanRightsCT campaign kickoff on September 8th.

Human beings across of  all ideological identities have the universal right to stand together and protest for what they believe is right. We know that across the world today, people are standing up and exercising this right. We see this everyday in the news. Whether it’s to advocate for modest economic gains, or speak out against injustice taken against immigrants or refugees, every human has the right to assemble in a peaceful, respectful fashion. Hate and violence have no place in the exercise of this right.  Washington DC this week will be a test of this right, as the Unite The Right 2 protest is met with counter-protest by multiple organized groups. To learn more about the protests in DC and what is being done by the city to create an environment of peace, check out the following article:

Washington Prepares For Protest

The CT Human Rights Partnership and the #StandUp4HumanRightsCT campaign calls on everyone this weekend to respect the core of what this right speaks to, peaceful demonstration and non-violence.
